Unneutralized amine TOH is hydrophobic, soluble in organic solvents, non-polar solvents, and mineral oil. The imidazoline ring structure forms ion-bonds with opposite polarity substances, allowing it to be strongly adsorbed on metals, fibers, plastics, glass, and mineral surfaces. This forms a dense molecular film that converts hydrophilic surfaces to hydrophobic.
